Representation is where a group of people, an issue, an event or a location is 're-presented' (or 'shown again') by the producer of a media product. Representations are constructed through media language, and they always demonstrate the ideology of the producer. Representations are reconstructions of reality, and every time an edit is made, a line of a screenplay is written or the 'record' button is pushed on a camera, a decision has been made as to how to reconstruct the world. Therefore media products are not 'real', and absolutely never could be!
